the taoists believe that the pain is only caused by resistance to change.
and for those people with no higher power, no faith, no belief, the one thing everyone can always believe in, something they cannot control, a power greator than themselves
is that things change.
imagine the happiest moment of your life, if its not this moment, then it has passed. imagine the worst struggle you have faces, if its not this moment, then it has passed. and even if it is this moment, this too shall pass.
so why then, the resistence to change? any struggles will be overcome, and if life is full of prosperity and nothing but, what will make you appreciate it?
gratitude, is the key to a fulfilling life. any day when you lay down in bed at night, with the most misery you can tolerate, do you feel grateful?
no, when youre life is hard, when all your getting is lemons, if you lay down in bed and think, “im so glad i have this comfortable bed, i have somewhere to sleep, i have life, that requires rest, i have eaten today, i have survived, and, gee, look at all these lemons! oh, the possibilities!”.... how depressed are you?

no, the one thing we cannot change is change. it will happen whether you cause it to or not, holding on to the past restricts you from appreciating the joys of this moment. theres more than one cause of happiness, and happiness and beauty are capable of being found everywhere.
i find beauty in the most simplest of things. for instance, i was awestruck today by the way the fence has been painted, and at the angle i was looking at it at, the grass and dandelions on the other side made a perfect asymmetrical balance. no, i cant describe to you so much what i saw, it was an ordinary scene in which i stand on a daily basis. although today, i happened to be standing in just the right position to finally notice the beauty of it.

staying stuck in lucid dreams of the future leave you stranded. you might become a rock star if you learn how to play the guitar, more likely than if you lay in bed all day fantasizing about it. sooner or later, and frequently, you are forced to accept where youre standing at the moment, who you are with, what direction youre life has taken, and the steps it took to get you there.

no, the future and the past get you nowhere, nowhere at all. live in this moment, and open your eyes wide, youll see the love of your dreams reading that book over there in the corner, youll notice the way the colours of the flowers blend with the colours of the grass to compliment the trees, youll smell the fresh roots growing out of the ground with your favourite plant on them, youll hear that person walking by say the most intriguing thing in your life, and most importantly, youll feel the completeness, the entirety of living in exactly this moment.

perhaps this is why people feel incomplete. they seperate their minds and souls into 2 or 3 tenses/worlds. if you want your soul to feel completion, it should live completely in one place.
or two bodies.

no, theres certain emotions in this world that make everything else worthwhile.
like love, that feeling of being alive, understood, completed, justified.
look at work, people work all year, suffering, so they can take one week off for vacation.
thats life, you suffer for 80% of your life, so you can enjoy 20%
youve got to work for your happiness man, no ones going to give it to you on a silver platter.

no, none of this is in vain. it all has a purpose underneath the pain. the pain gives you the motivation to strive for something better, the pain teaches you that this is not acceptable. it takes the pain to teach you, to make you grow into something that can achieve, and appreciate, happiness.
